WILLOW: GAME CHANGE

A few weeks ago I had a seriously epic ride on Wilz. Epic. I’m so glad THE Nicole and NG were there to witness it. Tricky to put it into words…

So she came out in the rectangle. We started with WTC on a loose rein straight in all 3 ways. When I put her on a 20m circle and delicately defined the front of the rectangle I went so so internal to try to feel for her and be a part of what was going on.

It was different than anything I’ve experienced before in a couple of ways.

Firstly, I wasn’t on the ready to “release with good timing”. Because there was so little tension on the reins, her turning loose was going to create it.

Secondly, there was an element of her working it out within herself. She felt confident about me, and confident about being in the rectangle with her feet and so she wasn’t exactly doing anything on my prompt. Inadequate way to describe it but I hope you can follow me.

The only thing I was doing was setting up an idea that she might be able to feel something different and giving her all the time in the world to think about that and make an adjustment if she wanted to. Because she’s so sensitive and, miracle of miracles so confident, it felt almost like she was curious.

The working it out though, felt like it was between her and herself. A little maybe in what she had been conditioned to before but more like a gentle war between her nature and stretching beyond her nature. That’s what I was talking about ages ago when I said I wanted to bring something to the horse!!! To present a possibility of a peace that they weren’t born with!!! (Read my original blog on that HERE.)

When she found it, I got a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes. In that moment, the game changed for her and of course, as a result, the game changed for me.

Things have fallen into place very quickly ever since. If I wasn’t there experiencing it, I wouldn’t believe it. Here’s a progress video from the other day. I talk through my ride and share a little of what I’m feeling.

Thanks for reading gang! Remember! I love to hear YOUR thoughts. So please write a comment, send me an email or a private message and feel free to share as you like.

  1. I get what you’re describing! Just being there in a support role/position and allowing the horse to find the release/comfort. Just set it up and let them find it! Very powerful stuff! I got a lump in my throat throat, tears in my eyes, and goosebumps listening to you describe it ☺
